The lives of a mob hitman, a figure skater, and a struggling composer all collide in this trio of true tales of crime. The Irishman, I, Tonya, and tick, tick…BOOM!. The Irishman tells the story of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a hitman involved with the Bufalino crime family who is believed to have murdered Teamster Jimmy Hoffa. I, Tonya follows the life of Tonya Harding, a figure skater who became embroiled in a scandal involving the attack on her rival, Nancy Kerrigan. And tick, tick…BOOM! Explores the life of Jonathan Larson, the composer of the hit musical Rent, and his struggles to make it in the world of theater.

The Irishman

Martin Scorsese’s epic Netflix film, The Irishman, follows the life of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran. A World War II veteran and a hitman for the Bufalino crime family, in this based-on-true-events crime drama. Sheeran, played by Robert De Niro, reminisces about his past and the secrets he kept as he worked with mobster Russell Bufalino (Joe Pesci) and Teamster Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino). The film suggests that Sheeran was involved in Hoffa’s murder. Although the mystery of Hoffa’s disappearance on July 30, 1975, remains unsolved. The Irishman has a runtime of three and a half hours.

I, Tonya

Loosely based on actual events, I, Tonya traces the rise of figure skater Tonya Harding. And her connection to the 1994 attack on her skating rival Nancy Kerrigan. Margot Robbie stars as Tonya, while the film examines the sabotage of Nancy Kerrigan. And Tonya’s ascent in the figure skating world. The attack on Kerrigan had orchestrated by Shawn Eckardt (Paul Walter Hauser), a friend of Tonya’s ex-husband Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), and the movie explores whether Tonya was aware of the plan. It is one of the true tales of crime.

Tick, Tick…BOOM!

Andrew Garfield plays playwright Jonathan Larson in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut. Which tells the story of the American composer and lyricist best known for Rent. Larson’s semi-autobiographical work about writing a musical inspired the stage musical of the same name. The film adaptation, titled Tick, Tick…Boom!, focuses on Larson’s life during the years leading up to Rent’s first Off-Broadway performance. But does not cover his death on that same day.
