The Wheel Of Time Season 2

The Wheel Of Time
The Wheel Of Time

The opening of season two of The Wheel Of Time comes as a shock.

Some of the things that happened in Season 1

In its first season, The Wheel of Time was about Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) who belonged to an organization called Aes Sedai, a powerful order that used a force called One Power which it guarded jealously. Together with her loyal Warder Lan (Daniel Henney), she set out to find five youths from Two Rivers in Andor which is secluded.

Moiraine believed among these regular peasants was the reincarnation of the Dragon; a very strong channeler who causes great cataclysms and reshapes destinies. This person was known as the Dragon Reborn and it was prophesied that he would either save civilization from an ancient evil called Dark One or allow himself to be co-opted for its destruction yet again.

As this adventure played out, Moiraine, Lan Nynaeve, Egwene, Rand, Perrin and Mat (Zoe Robins, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford and Dónal Finn) were thrown into a world teetering on the brink of disaster due to prophecies and power plays.

At the end of the season we learned Rand can actually be identified as the Dragon Reborn because he emerged free from his battle with Dark One casting him back down into obscurity for another 3000 years.

Wheel Of Time Season 2

The beginning of season two clearly shows how everything ended wrongly at first glance.

To some extent however, episodes one to three in season two are just leading up towards something bigger. You know what? Egwene and Nynaeve might have been embraced by Aes Sedai’s Novices. However while Egwene has quickly adapted to life there as if she belonged there Nynaeve appears less trustful. The rest of the group is far away from each other as Perrin joined Fal Dara army escort and Matt was captured by Red Ajah while Morraine has not yet touched One Power after the last encounter with the Dark One.

Analyzing Season 2

Although the build up was slow and drawn out in Season 2, it gave a chance for the audience to peak at Rand who is presumed dead by many after his encounter with Dark One in Season 1, but has actually been living secretly among mental patients. But It has got an aim. Again, in these episodes also his power is shown when he started channeling at the season end of one.

Wheel Of Time Season 2’s first three episodes merely expose Nynaeve’s true powers as she initially rebels against the sisters but eventually gives in to their persuasive tactics all the while hinting at Moirraine’s objective.

The Wheel of Time: Season 2 – Final Thoughts

From its opening episodes, The Wheel of Time Season 2 does little to win audience favour and stands on shaky ground with public opinion. However, how this season will go down ultimately is subjective.
